Why subscribe?
My first novel was a Cyberpunk 2020 fan fiction back in the late 90’s. It wasn’t any good, but the neat thing was that I started and finished an 80K story and had fun doing it. The next decade saw three degrees, a marriage, a house, a teaching career, and no writing. Not the fun kind, anyway. But eventually, I got back to it, earning my graduate certificate in creative writing from Humber School for Writers in Toronto. I didn’t realize it at the time but it also marked the beginning of a transition toward approaching my writing as a professional.
Over the next decade I taught English and Writer’s Craft while working on my own stories, experimenting with literary and historical fiction before finding my groove in the speculative arenas of fantasy. In 2024 I became an affiliate member of Editors Canada, and now work alongside independent authors as a developmental editor, from my small homestead where I live with my wife, two dogs, and a flock of chickens, surrounded by tall trees and good books.
My novel, From the Flesh of the Mighty, won the Braun Book Award and is being published later this year by Word Alive Press (Cover and publication info to follow). I’ve experienced the fluctuating chaotic energy of the first draft several times over, and as an editor, I’m constantly on the other side of that wonderful chaos, helping writers work it into the order of a novel.
